Level Five Curriculum
Five grade curriculum focuses on developing conversational Spanish skills as students learn and use new structures, questions, and phrases. The goal and purpose of this year is to prepare students for Spanish study at the middle school level.
We will focus on several topics throughout the three marking periods, as opposed to our typical three units, and several of these topics revolve around culture! This is an exciting year as we pull together everything we have learned.
Additionally, much of students' language learning will use a TPRS storytelling technique. The teacher and students create a story together in Spanish, and it supports students' learning of different verbs, phrases, and vocabulary!

Spanish Alphabet |
Understanding the Spanish alphabet is SOOOO important for your future studies!!! It will help you read and speak much more naturally! Pay close attention to your pronunciation and how the different letters sound -- they are DEFINITELY not the same as in English! :)

El Dia de los Muertos
El día de los muertos is often a misunderstood holiday in the United States. Its proximity to Halloween sometimes yields incorrect associations to the holiday. Because of this, it is a wonderful lesson on comparing and contrasting cultures and not making assumptions about other groups of people. Students love learning about the holiday, its symbols, and the ways in which it is celebrated.
The Importance of Learning Another Language
This lesson will include a project with an at home component -- students will be creating posters/collages describing the reasons why learning another language could be beneficial for them. During our in class lessons, they will be required to analyze different resources presenting them with all the information they should need to complete this project. They will also complete an exit slip on the first day that will supply them with information they can use on their poster. Attached is the rubric and guidelines for the project!! It is imperative that students complete this project and turn it in on time.

Review of Past Content
Practice makes permanent!!! The more we practice our Spanish, the better we will get at it. That's why practicing what we learn from years past is so important! In this mini-unit, we will spend one month reviewing all of the core vocabulary and grammar from the past four years! Some of the topics include: introductions, expressing feelings, greetings, colors, numbers, discussing your age and birthday, days of the week, weather and seasons, key Hispanic holidays, and more. Students will be given three weeks to work to review this material with various activities before responding to three of twenty four questions, randomly selected! The more you practice, the more you know!! Use the resources below if you want to practice outside of class, as well!
La Comida
I'm so excited about our food unit that we've started en la class de español! Not only are we learning about yummy foods, we are also learning about the culinary diversity that exists among the Spanish speaking world. In the hopes of making this unit even more meaningful for our students, SLE will also host a small food tasting so students have a chance to sample a variety of foods associated with the Hispanic culture.
